The meeting in a nutshell
The fourth meeting of the GAMES project took place in Laa an der Thaya, Austria, December 17–21, 2018. This was a training event for pupils. In particular:
- Sunday, 16/12/2018
The teams from Lithuania and Turkey arrived this day; the team from Greece
arrived one day later because their flight to Vienna was canceled.
- Monday, 17/12/2018
The official welcome took place on this day and the teams started with their
working sessions. The Austrian team presented their game ideas and the tools
they used: Action bound for a game-based tour through Laa.
Twine, a tool to tell stories with different endings. Students can interact
with the story and determine the endings by making decisions. Unity is a tool by
which you can create your own video game. After lunch we played our own
Action bound live and everyone got important facts about our town
combined with a lot of fun. Later people enjoyed the Spa in Laa.
- Tuesday, 18/12/2018
This day we went to Vienna and visited an educational institution, called FLIP
Financial Life Park (FLIP). It has opened recently and it can help educational
organizations to teach students everyday economics (e.g., the value of money).
The pedagogical tools make use of modern IT tools so to make students get engaged.
This experience had a deep impact to the pupils. After that the teams visisted some
historical sites, like Schönbrunn.
- Wednesday, 19/12/2018
Our day started with a recap of what happened the first two days. Then, the Greek team
presented their game ideas. A member of the Lithuanian team followed with a presentation
of a video game. Teachers and pupils had the chance to play their prototypes. Last but not
least, the Turkish team presented their game which we played all together. After that we
discussed what’s the characteristic of a good game, which problems one faces when she
creates a new game and how she can handle these problems.
In the evening, all teams went to the local cinema to watched the 3D film THE NUTCRAKER.
- Thursday, 20/12/2018
Early in the morning we took the train towards Vienna to visit a very modern Museum.
The museuem uses a 5D movie to teach people something about Viennese history.
In addition, they employ a lot of other attractive methods to transfer interesting
information to visitors. After that we walked through the old town of Vienna and got
some historical and cultural information. Of course, we also visited the traditional

The next day, Apostolos Syropoulos gave an introduction into HTML5 Canvas. Afterwards
we made the summary, feedback for evaluating the meeting and discussed the next steps.
Basically, we agreed on the date of the next meeting and that in the meantime each
team (excluding the Romanian team) should create a playable game or usable
